The Vacuum Pack Behind Doux Rêves

The Vacuum Pack Behind Doux Rêves

Emilie Cordier

The first time I watched a Doudoux come out of the vacuum machine, I'll admit I was a little alarmed. A pillow that had just been round and full went flat as a pancake in seconds.

Why we vacuum pack

Doudoux and Mon Copain Leo are light, but they're bulky. Most of what makes them so pleasant to hold is air, trapped inside the filling, and shipping that air across the world at full size means more cartons than the product itself needs. Pressing that air out before shipping roughly doubles how many pieces fit in the same carton, which means a lighter footprint for every piece that reaches you. The vacuum bag does a second job that matters just as much to us: heat sealed shut, it's airtight, so the filling and the fabric stay completely sealed off from dust, moisture and anything else along the journey. These are pieces made for babies and small children, so arriving exactly as clean and untouched as they left the factory isn't a nice-to-have. It's the standard we hold ourselves to.

What the compression actually does

Nothing about the piece itself changes in the process. The filling inside every Doudoux and Mon Copain Leo is 100% polyester, OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, and it's designed to be pressed flat and to recover afterward. Vacuum packing only removes the air sitting between the fibers for the length of the journey. It doesn't touch the fibers themselves, so the flatness you see when a pouch first arrives isn't a smaller or thinner version of the piece. It's the same piece, just waiting for its air back.

Bringing it back to full softness

That flat, pressed look when it first comes out isn't permanent, it's temporary. A smaller Doudoux is usually back to itself within a couple of hours. An XL Doudoux or a Mon Copain Leo can take closer to a full day to settle into its final form. A gentle shake and a few pats by hand will speed things along.
